Peabody Court ~ A Clarion Hotel is named for Massachusetts-born philanthropist and long-time Baltimore resident George Peabody (1795 - 1869), the Peabody Court began as a luxury apartment building in 1928, situated in the city's prominent Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Appropriately enough for a man who donated some $8 million dollars in his lifetime to support educational endeavors, Mt. Vernon is Baltimore's educational and cultural center. Chosen as the site for the first Virginia estate, Mt. Vernon comprises more than a century of historic architecture, mansions, and cobblestone and brick streets. The Peabody Court, with it's Renaissance Revival facade, is a testament to the style of the Twenties and the tenor of Mt. Vernon. A six-foot Baccarat chandelier and George Peabody's paneled library grace the well-appointed lobby. The renowned Walters Art Gallery, the Peabody Music Conservatory, the Enoch Pratt Free Library and Antique Row are just a short walk away.
